As the years go by, we have invited each scholarship recipient to the home he built for his family. We gather to exchange memories, prayers and to congratulate each student and the loved ones they bring with them. We have felt that honoring Dad by taking a picture with his Texas Flag flying high in the background was one more way to express our gratitude for all his hard work and dedication to his family and his community.
The Constable Percy Medina Scholarship was first created by Constable Medina himself in 2008. After his untimely passing in October of 2019, his wife Roberta and children Erica, Priscilla, Gabriel and Mark were compelled to continue the work of their beloved patriarch. We are here to keep his memory alive by working together to offer assistance to well-deserving students of Atascosa County, Texas.
Our goal in 2021 was to award more scholarships than ever before and with the help of our community, family, friends and God, we were able to accomplish that goal and award over $20,000 in scholarships, as well as adding in Jourdanton and Charlotte High Schools to the program. We are proud to say that Dad's scholarship now includes all four of the Atascosa County High Schools!
For over 18 years, Constable Percy Medina, Atascosa Co. Precinct 1, served his community with dignity and respect. His oath was as strong as the oaks that shade the home he built for his family with the help of his wife, Roberta. Together they raised 4 children, teaching them to always give back to their community, to help those that desire to help themselves and to always thank God above for the blessings bestowed upon their family. He not only spoke the words, but also fulfilled them through action. Constable Medina began awarding two scholarships to seniors of Pleasanton and Poteet High Schools in 2008, but was able to increase it to four scholarships per year. After his untimely passing in October of 2019, we decided to continue the hard work of Constable Medina.
Dedicated public servant.
